comfortable defeat at the hands of Tattenhall in the first Jack Gardner Trophy
T20 of the season.
Park skipper Paul Morris lost the toss, and Winnington were forced to bat
first in testing Northwich conditions.
Joe Paterson (0) fell in the last ball of the first over, playing a loose
shot and seeing the ball land safely in the palms of Alex Huxley at point. Josh
Tench (0) followed next ball, clean bowled by Ben Wood.
After a solid period with Evans, Jonny Reissing (6) was clean bowled whilst
trying to force the ball through mid-wicket, a familiar feeling for the
North Cheshire youngster Sam Barnes (12) played an impressive and calm-headed
knock, and supported Evans to allow the hockey superstar to pass 50.
Evans smashed his way to 85 before he was followed by Tom Silvester (2) and
Irfan Qureshi (4) up the steps.
Morris (2) and Glover (1) added little, with Alan Stone (6*) and James Hanson
(1*) remaining unbeaten after 20 overs.
Winnington Park 142-9 (20 overs).
Tattenhall’s reply started slowly, and Silvester caught Roberts at square-leg
off the bowling of Barnes (2-17) in the first over.
Hanson (0-10) bowled solidly from the Road End, although Barnes struck next,
trapping Rowlinson LBW for 4.
E. Drake and Keith Dearling laid into the Park attack and unsuccessful spells
for Glover (0-56), Paterson (0-29) and Morris (0-17) did little to stop the
partnership passing 100.
It was Josh Tench (1-16) who broke the partnership with three runs required,
although the delivery was probably a no ball…
Tattenhall 143-3 (17 overs).
