A superb six-wicket haul from Stu Moniz helped Winnington Park’s 2nd XI get back to winning ways as they beat Disley by 79 runs on Saturday.
Ten-man Disley’s day started badly as they arrived late in Northwich, meaning they forfeited the toss. Captain Phill Amatiello chose to bat when play finally got underway ten minutes late.
Park made a good start with Amatiello top scoring with 43 from 56 balls and Joe Paterson contributing a good 39 that included five fours. But Neil Powell (15) and Sam Speak (13) were the only other Winnington batsmen to reach double figures as they lost their last six wickets for just 24 runs to finish on 154 all out, Rick Robinson-Moss (5-12) doing most of the damage.
Any hopes of a Disley win were soon dashed when Stu Moniz ripped through their top order, he claimed a wicket in each of his first four overs and eventually finished with figures of 6-11 from nine overs, moving him on to 24 total wickets this season. Winnington were much improved in the field; Amatiello, Speak and Powell each took a superb diving catch.
James Hanson (2-20) backed Moniz up from the opposite end as Disley stumbled to 37-8. But their final wicket partnership was an impressive one, Shehryar Mughal (24) and Robinson-Moss (22*) put on 38 runs before Bailey Metzinger (1-18) wrapped up the win for Park when he bowled Mughal with Disley on 75.
The 25-point win moves Winnington up to third in the TACS Partnership Cheshire Cricket League Division C on 136 points, eight points behind second-placed Pott Shrigley who they face next week.
