Stu Moniz’s third six-wicket haul of the season helped Winnington Park’s 2nd XI secure a comfortable win over struggling Chelford. The heatwave continued in Northwich, and when Chelford captain Steve Mitchell won the toss, he elected to bat in what looked like run-scoring conditions.
Chelford made a decent start as Vishal Srivastava (28) scored quickly and survived numerous chances, and Phil Dutoy (38) looked impressive too. But after Moniz claimed both their wickets, Chelford struggled to score, with no other batsman reaching double figures. Moniz finished with figures of 6-55 from his 15 overs, taking his total number of wickets this season to 33. He was backed up by James Hanson (1-38) and the returning Ash Houghton (3-10) as Park used only three bowlers to knock over their opponents.
Park got off to a good start with the bat as Chris Johns hit a quick-fire 32 from 28 balls, and Josh Tench made 14 before both lost their wickets to Irfan (2-36). Winnington were 56-2 when number four Tom Woolley joined Neil Powell at the crease, and the pair built a good partnership to comfortably knock off the runs. Woolley hit 18* from 25 balls, but it was Powell who top scored with a score of 39* that included five fours.
It took Park just over 24 overs to reach their target as they continue their good form in the TACS Partnership Cheshire Cricket League Division C, they are now unbeaten in five ahead of a trip to Alderley Park on Saturday.
