Saturday proved to be a day to forget for Winnington Park 1st XI, as they came away with no points from their home match against Upton.
With Park 30 points from safety in the TACS Cheshire Cricket League Division 1, captain Mike Johns elected to bat first on a green wicket.
However, it was a combination of poor decision making and quality bowling that saw the home side dismissed for just 96 runs. Jonathan Wales (24) and Greg McKeown (25 not out) offered the only resistance as the experienced Gary Dixon (5-37) removed the Park top order.
Upton made short work of their target with Alex Cotter (81no, off 69 balls) hitting the Park bowlers to all parts of the ground. The Northwich based side were unable to take any of the chances they created, and despite Runcorn losing to Hale Barns, Winnington now find themselves 35 points from safety with just six games to go.
Park captain Mike Johns said; "Following today's result, we find ourselves deep in the relegation zone. However, next week we travel to Runcorn, a team we beat earlier in the season. If we can beat them again, who knows what can happen between now and the end of the season".
