Winnington Park 1st XI were unlucky not to claim victory in a one sided
affair against Prestbury on Saturday.
Park captain Mike Johns had no hesitation in choosing to bat first on a firm
track, despite a rain delay resulting in a reduction of overs.
Greg McKeown (51) and James Hendry (26) laid the foundation for the middle
order of Matt Bebbington (39) and Chris Johns (30*) to take the Park total to
183-5, and an early declaration.
In reply, Walker (32) and Thompson (18) offered resistance for Prestbury.
However, the introduction of leg-spinner Jonathan Wales (4-34) swung the game
back in Park's favour, with the visitors slipping from 34-1 to 69-7.
The Park skipper rotated his bowlers as he looked to finish the job. However,
the Prestbury tail stood firm as the Macclesfield side finished on 93-8 to
secure the draw.
Following the game Mike Johns was positive in reflection; "I'm proud of all
eleven players today. We've been searching for a team performance, and today we
got it. Hopefully we can build on this in the coming weeks".
