Despite inconsistency with the bat so far this season, Park captain Mike Johns had no hesitation in choosing to bat on a humid day.
A steady start allowed Ben Chaloner (41) and Pete Evans (31) to accelerate through the middle of the innings. However, both were dismissed in unfortunate circumstances, allowing Northwich to take control through Mark Walker (3-37) and James Plant (4-36).
The home side knew they were under par with a total of 151, but a spirited bowling and fielding performance allowed Park to put a youthful Northwich team under pressure. Seemingly cruising to victory at 78-1, Northwich slipped to 125-6. It was only the experienced Walker (34no) who found batting easy as Winnington put pressure on the Northwich middle order. Jonathan Wales (3-54) was the pick of the Winnington bowlers.
Eventually Northwich reached their target with six overs to spare, allowing them to establish themselves at the top of the TACS Cheshire Cricket League Division 1
