Winnington Park’s 2nd XI remain unbeaten in the TACS Partnership Cheshire
Cricket League Division C after they easily swept aside The Groves on Saturday.
Rain throughout the morning and during the trip from Northwich to Ellesmere
Port-based club The Groves had put the game in doubt, but the sun shone just
long enough for the teams to play out the 33 total overs it took Park to win the
game.
Captain Phill Amatiello lost the toss and The Groves chose to bat, though
they will certainly have regretted that decision after they were bowled out for
just 33.
Park only needed two bowlers, Stu Moniz took 6-16 from his 11.4 overs and
James Hanson took 3-15 from his 11-over spell, the two also combined for nine
maidens. A Paul Morris run out accounted for the other wicket.
Moniz’s six-wicket haul puts him on 13 for the season, making him comfortably
the leading wicket taker for the 2nd XI.
Winnington backed up their bowlers with superb fielding, they had no drops
and seven catches – three of which from young wicketkeeper Sam Speak, and one
fantastic diving effort in the slips from an injured Rob Begbie.
Park only needed ten overs to knock off the runs, although it did come with a
few hiccups – the top three of Josh Tench (4), Tom Woolley (6) and Jonny
Reissing (10) all lost their wickets, but Neil Powell (6*) and Paul Morris (8*)
saw Winnington home comfortably.
The victory earns Park 25 points for the second week in a row, taking their
season tally to 78 ahead of a home game to Aston next Saturday.
Winnington Park (36-3) beat The Groves (33 all out) by 7 wickets
