Rob Powell’s first five-wicket haul of his career helped Winnington Park’s 3rd XI to a winning draw away at Tattenhall.
Park captain Paul Morris won the toss and elected to bat, and Tattenhall got off to a good start as Henry Dobson had opener Tom Woolley caught behind for a duck. Morris steadied the innings with a knock of 25 but it was the partnership of Jonny Reissing (32) and Mark Stone (34) that was crucial to Winnington’s innings. Joe Paterson came in at seven to hit a good, unbeaten 20 – and there were cameos for Sam Speak (12) and Rob Powell (9) as Park finished on 170-8, Tattenhall’s Ryan Spann doing most of the damage with figures of 4-45.
Tattenhall started their innings well, the top three of Henry Dobson (20), Josh Harding (32) and Ewan Drake (38) all impressed but after Sam Barnes (1-29) and Rob Powell combined to take their wickets, the rest of their line-up struggled.
After claiming the wickets of Harding and Drake, Powell took another three in a row as he ripped through Tattenhall’s middle order to finish with figures of 5-13 from nine overs.
Joe Paterson (1-36) and Paul Morris (1-2) each claimed a wicket – as well as a Sam Barnes run out – to leave the hosts nine wickets down. But Park couldn’t claim the final wicket as an injured Dan Gibbon successfully blocked out the final over. Winnington claimed 13 points for the draw which moves them up to fourth in the 3rd XI Division Three West on 111 points.
