Only captain Paul Morris reached double figures for Winnington Park 3rd XI,
as they fell to another Jack Gardner Trophy defeat at Nantwich.
Bowling first, Park began to be on the back foot, despite decent opening
spells for Stephen Riley (1-18) and Sam Barnes (1-29).
Dave Hine (18), a familiar face to many at Park, came in at three and scored
quickly before Paul Morris took an impressive catch off the bowling of Barnes.
Opener Draper hit an impressive 57, whilst Reeves, batting at five, played
his way to 35. Hanson (0-36) was unlucky, whilst Metzinger went for 24 off his
two overs.
Paul Morris (1-16) helped to peg Nantwich back, and the arrival of Paterson
(3-20) at the death brought a flurry of late wickets, all stumped by Sam Speak.
With a better fielding performance, Park would have limited Nantwich to a
lower total than the 148-6 they registered from their 20 overs.
The Park reply began slowly, with Tench (2) and Paterson (8) playing
sensibly. Tench went first, before Reissing (0), Speak (0) and Barnes (4)
followed in quick succession.
Paul Morris came in at six, and played much more freely than those before
him. Paterson fell LBW to a long-hop whilst Morris smashed a quick 21, before he
was clean-bowled trying to heave one onto Alsager Cricket Club.
Pearson removed Chris Glover (1), and McKeown (3-3) mopped up the tail, with
the exception of Irfan Qureshi who finished unbeaten with five. Winnington
finished all out for 58.
There are many areas to improve on for Morris’ side, but the 3rd team are
much better ironing out mistakes early on, rather than when the Cheshire County
League season starts in two weeks time.
