Winnington Park 1st XI lost their third game in a row, as they fell to a 9 wicket defeat at Ashton-on-Mersey on Saturday.
Having lost the toss, Park captain Mike Johns was somewhat surprised to be asked to bat on a firm track. Despite losing an early wicket, Greg McKeown (60) and Jonathan Wales (28) took the Park total to 95-1 from 28 overs. And at this stage, the Ashton-on-Mersey captain looked to be regretting his decision.
However, the home side fought back well; removing McKeown and Wales in quick succession, and continuing to run through the Park middle. Park were left struggling on 133-8 with six overs remaining, but Rob Begbie (14) and Ben Coulbeck (19no) were able to add six boundaries to boost the visitors total to 165-9 from their 45 overs.
Ashton-on-Mersey made short work of the target set by blitzing their way to the total in 18.1 overs, for the loss of just one wicket. Pratick Kumar (89no) and Harry Michelmore (72no) played an array of high quality shots, barely offering a chance, as the Winnington bowlers were left scratching their heads. Ben Coulbeck (1-27) picking up the only wicket to fall.
Winnington will hope a return to The Recreation Ground see's a change of fortune, as the Northwich based side now have three home fixtures on the bounce.
