Park 3rd XI’s batting performances have so far been impressive this season , but a few old issues came back to the fore last Sunday, as they lost by 10 wickets to Ashley.
Winnington were forced to bat first after captain Josh Tench had lost the toss, and they went on to lose key early wickets to the impressive bowling of Zeehan Ishan (5-25).
Low scores for openers Tench (1) and Tom Woolley (4), as well as Mark Stone (3) and Sam Speak (0) put the Park lower-middle order under serious pressure.
At 21-6, Park’s final score of 65 all out was respectable, as Joe Paterson (26) and Stephen Riley (14) showed some resistance.
However Peter Room, Alan Stone, James Hanson and Dan Barnes only registered four runs between them, although Simon Barnes fought for over ten overs for his 3*.
In reply, Alan Stone dropped Matt Lamming in the first over, but it wasn’t to carry any significance, as Park’s low score was an easy target for Ashley, who knocked it off inside 13 overs.
James Hanson and Dan Barnes bowled fairly well early on, but Ashley openers Lamming (35*) and Jaan Shanaka (32*) had no trouble dispatching under-pitched balls for four.
Park, still top of Division 3 West, travel to Runcorn next Sunday and will be looking to get back on track following this disappointing performance.
