Winnington Park 1st XI returned to winning ways with a crushing victory over Runcorn on Saturday at The Recreation Ground.

Having won the toss and elected to bat, Runcorn captain Steven Sheakey would have been delighted to see his opening pair take the visitors to 40-0. However, his opposite number Mike Johns turned to his spinners; Jonathan Wales and Michael Dunning. Wales (6-43) and Dunning (4-53) were backed up by an excellent fielding display which saw the home side restrict Runcorn to 145 all out.

An early burst from Steven Sheakey (3-37) saw Park stumble to 10-3. Enter Ben Chaloner (77 not out) and Jonathan Wales (46 not out). The pair put on 136 for the fourth wicket to see Park home with 14 overs to spare.

Winnington Park captain Mike Johns said; "There were three stand out performers today, but the team were fantastic with their fielding and enthusiasm throughout. We're unbeaten at home having collected two victories and a winning draw. Hopefully next week we can transfer the home form into an away fixture when we travel to Mobberley."

Langley 2XI Vs WPCC 2XI

Cheshire Cricket 2XI
A poor performance away at top of the table Langley broke Winnington Park 2nd XI’s five-match unbeaten run as they lost by 126 runs.

Park captain Phill Amatiello won the toss and elected to bowl, and Winnington made the perfect start – Stu Moniz had Tim Laughton caught on the boundary with the first ball of the game.
But it was downhill from there as the next batsman in, Jason Hanaghan, went on to make 109. He was supported by Rick Laughton (48) as Langley posted an impressive total of 219-6 from their 45 overs.
It’s the highest batting score against Winnington Park so far this season as most of the bowlers struggled. Only the economical Stu Moniz (1-21 from 12 overs) and Sam Speak (3-17) had much success.
The other two wickets were claimed by James Hanson and Sam Barnes but Winnington were left disappointed from their efforts in the field, albeit in difficult, muddy conditions.

Park failed to pick up any batting points as they were bowled out for 93. Only two men reached double figures – Tom Woolley coming in at five hit 19 and Stu Moniz at nine made his highest total of the year, an entertaining knock of 44 that included four fours and four sixes.
Dominic Moore ripped through the Park line-up, claiming six wickets for just eight runs as Langley moved further ahead at the top with the 25-point win.
Winnington picked up three points as they dropped to third in the TACS
Partnership Cheshire Cricket League Division C, nine points behind second-placed Stockport Trinity.

WPCC 3XI Vs Tattenhall 3XI

Despite Winnington Park 3rd XI registering another impressive total, a lack of bite from the Park bowling attack led to their first Cheshire County League defeat of the season to a youthful Tattenhall side.

Batting first, Paul Morris and Josh Tench got Park off to a solid start, with the Northwich side reaching 45 before Josh Tench (15) was dismissed. Morris followed for 30 soon afterwards, and Jonny Reissing (4) failed to reach the heights of last week’s 114*.
Sam Barnes and Joe Paterson produced a key partnership of 120 runs, with both keeping the score ticking over nicely for the best part of 30 overs. Barnes reached his maiden senior half century in the 41st over, with the youngster showing great maturity throughout his unbeaten 61.
Paterson was denied his 50 in the final over, being caught at long-on for 46, and Peter Room followed last ball of the innings for a three-ball duck.

WPCC 187-5 (45 overs).

Mark Stone (2-44) gave Park early hope, with both Josh Harding and Josh Spraggs edging into the palms of wicketkeeper Tench. Sam Barnes (0-7) bowled well in his short spell, before he was replaced by
Dan Barnes. A good spell of pressure followed from the young off-spinner (0-37 from 10), but Park struggled to make further inroads into the Tattenhall line-up.
The introduction of Morris (2-19) from the Road End gave Park more control, and the captain took two key wickets to give Park a chance of victory.
Room (1-29) bowled well under pressure at the death, and leg-spinner Paterson (3-31) received good turn from the Works End. Despite a nervy finish, Park couldn’t take the last two wickets and Tattenhall reached their target in the 43rd over.

TCC 189-8. (44 overs).

Nantwich 4XI Vs WPCC 3XI

A sensational 114* from Jonny Reissing helped Winnington Park 3rd XI defeat Nantwich 4th XI, despite Park only having eight players at their disposal.

Batting first, Paul Morris started confidently, although his partner Josh Tench (4) went early after being trapped plum in front of his stumps by Eoghan McTiernan.  Morris was joined by Reissing, but Morris (27) also fell to the bowling of McTiernan shortly after. Mark Stone (5) supported Reissing well for several overs - before he edged one into the palms of wicketkeeper Ben Lloyd.
Peter Room (0) came and went within three balls, bringing Joe Paterson to the crease. The two put on a solid 80-run partnership, with Paterson playing a sensible role, allowing Reissing to play freely and aggressively.
After Paterson had gone for 31, Sam Speak (20*) joined Reissing to accelerate the score. Reissing brought up his ton with a boundary, summing up a fantastic knock that included 13 fours and two sixes.

Nantwich’s reply began in poor fashion, as Sam Speak (3-9) claimed several scalps in his short opening spell.  Despite the early setback, Ben Lloyd and Peter West added 90 for the fourth wicket, as Paterson (0-33) and Mark Stone (0-37) struggled to threaten. A testing spell from Morris (3-22) applied pressure to the Nantwich batsmen, and the captain struck to take the vital wicket of West for 44. Speak took a fine catch at square-leg off the bowling of Room to send Bloor back, and Morris removed the dangerous Lloyd (65) to give Park a sight of victory. Morris clean bowled Nathan Hall to take the 7th wicket, and Nantwich captain McTiernan was run out by Sam Speak shortly after to secure the win, capping a fine day for the youngster, and for the triumphant Park Eight.

Winnington Park 210-5 (45 overs).     Nantwich 174 (31.5 overs).

It’s now four wins in a row for Winnington Park’s 2nd XI, they remain unbeaten in the TACS
Partnership Cheshire Cricket League Division C following a six-wicket win over Aston on Saturday. Fourth-placed Aston had won three of their four previous games batting second, so when Park captain Phill Amatiello won the toss, he elected to bowl, despite light rain falling over The Recreation Ground.

Park bowled consistently and accurately to leave the visitors on just 31-2 at drinks, opening bowlers Stu Moniz and James Hanson taking a wicket each.Aston tried to push on following the break but Park took wickets at regular intervals to slow their progress. Only number three Mainwaring offered much resistance; he top scored with 37 before Bailey Metzinger (1-21) claimed his wicket.
Only one other batsman reached double figures as Winnington were miserly with their bowling. Stu Moniz (2-23) and Phill Amatiello (2-33) both bowled 15 overs, and James Hanson took 3-11 from his ten overs.

Aston finished on 93-8 and Park comfortably chased the runs down with 17 overs to spare. Amatiello top scored with a patient and unbeaten 32 from 60 balls, and Ian Woodcock made a good 30 coming in at three before he was caught off the bowling of Gunn.
Aston’s 13-year-old opening bowler McCormack impressed, he claimed the wickets of Sam Barnes (11) and Neil Powell (4) to finish with figures of 2-34. Josh Tench was the other man out, he made three before being trapped LBW by Mottershead. But Rob Begbie (7*) partnered Amatiello as they saw Park home, earning 20 points for the win whilst Aston gain two.

Winnington Park 1st XI were unlucky not to claim victory in a one sided
affair against Prestbury on Saturday.
Park captain Mike Johns had no hesitation in choosing to bat first on a firm
track, despite a rain delay resulting in a reduction of overs.

Greg McKeown (51) and James Hendry (26) laid the foundation for the middle
order of Matt Bebbington (39) and Chris Johns (30*) to take the Park total to
183-5, and an early declaration.

In reply, Walker (32) and Thompson (18) offered resistance for Prestbury.
However, the introduction of leg-spinner Jonathan Wales (4-34) swung the game
back in Park's favour, with the visitors slipping from 34-1 to 69-7.
The Park skipper rotated his bowlers as he looked to finish the job. However,
the Prestbury tail stood firm as the Macclesfield side finished on 93-8 to
secure the draw.

Following the game Mike Johns was positive in reflection; "I'm proud of all
eleven players today. We've been searching for a team performance, and today we
got it. Hopefully we can build on this in the coming weeks".

Winnington Park 1st XI - 183-5dec (38 overs)

The Groves 2XI Vs WPCC 2XI

Winnington Park’s 2nd XI remain unbeaten in the TACS Partnership Cheshire
Cricket League Division C after they easily swept aside The Groves on Saturday.
Rain throughout the morning and during the trip from Northwich to Ellesmere
Port-based club The Groves had put the game in doubt, but the sun shone just
long enough for the teams to play out the 33 total overs it took Park to win the
game.

Captain Phill Amatiello lost the toss and The Groves chose to bat, though
they will certainly have regretted that decision after they were bowled out for
just 33.
Park only needed two bowlers, Stu Moniz took 6-16 from his 11.4 overs and
James Hanson took 3-15 from his 11-over spell, the two also combined for nine
maidens. A Paul Morris run out accounted for the other wicket.
Moniz’s six-wicket haul puts him on 13 for the season, making him comfortably
the leading wicket taker for the 2nd XI.
Winnington backed up their bowlers with superb fielding, they had no drops
and seven catches – three of which from young wicketkeeper Sam Speak, and one
fantastic diving effort in the slips from an injured Rob Begbie.

Park only needed ten overs to knock off the runs, although it did come with a
few hiccups – the top three of Josh Tench (4), Tom Woolley (6) and Jonny
Reissing (10) all lost their wickets, but Neil Powell (6*) and Paul Morris (8*)
saw Winnington home comfortably.
The victory earns Park 25 points for the second week in a row, taking their
season tally to 78 ahead of a home game to Aston next Saturday.

Winnington Park (36-3) beat The Groves (33 all out) by 7 wickets

WPCC 2XI Vs Alderley Park 2XI

Winnington Park’s 2nd XI impressed with both bat and ball as they notched up
a second win in a row, beating Alderley Park by 88 runs.
Over half of Alderley’s players were late to their trip to Northwich, but
after winning the toss they still elected to bowl.
Winnington’s top order batted superbly. Opening pair Chris Johns and Josh
Tench hit 35 and 34 respectively, Neil Powell at four made 31, but captain Phill
Amatiello coming in at three top scored; he struck seven fours on his way to a
knock of 53 from 54 balls.
The runs from the first four batsmen alone accounted for 153 of Winnington’s
runs, Sam Barnes hit 12 and Tom Silvester finished unbeaten on five as Park
declared with three overs to go on 197.
Opener Stu Moniz was the pick was the pick of Winnington’s bowling attack, he
took 4-14 but was denied a possible five-wicket haul when an injury forced his
spell to come to a premature end.
Sam Barnes, Bailey Metzinger and Tom Woolley each took two wickets as
Alderley were bowled out for 109, only Suresh Jayaraman (who had earlier taken
5-44) with a knock of 49* caused Winnington any real trouble.
Credit has to go to Alderley’s final partnership of Jayaraman and Madeley
though, they played solid defensive cricket and it took Winnington 15 overs to
take the decisive wicket.
Winnington earn 25 points for the win as they remain unbeaten in the TACS
Partnership Cheshire Cricket League Division C ahead of a tough trip to The
Groves next week.
