Winnington Park 2XI dropped to 3rd place in TACS Partnership Cheshire Cricket League Division C following a losing draw away to Alderley Park.
Bowling first after winning the toss, the Northwich club started solidly, with opening bowlers Sam Barnes (1-22) and Stu Moniz (1-56) keeping early runs down to a minimum.
However, Alderley Park gathered momentum as the innings progressed by capitalising on any loose deliveries.
Joe Paterson (0-36), Bailey Metzinger (2-40) and Tom Woolley (1-35) bowled well in places, but continued to supply the batsmen with easy boundaries.
Chris Johns’ off-spin took three late wickets, including top scorer Balaji Balakrishnan (63) and the controversial R.Singh (50). Another late wicket from Barnes made Alderley Park’s 223-8 look a little more respectable, after Winnington had partially lost control.
Park’s reply got off to a poor start, as a communication error between Josh Tench and Johns led to Tench being run out for 4. Johns added a quick 20, before Neil Powell blasted a positive 21 of his own. Paterson (34) and Captain Phill Amatiello (30) batted well together to register a 67 run partnership, before both fell in the same over to skipper Kirk Lewis (3-40) trying to push the run rate forward.
Tom Woolley (27*) batted sensibly until the end, and contributions from Sam Speak (13) and Sam Barnes (18*) allowed Park to close on a respectable 185-7 from 45 overs.
