Winnington
Juniors
The main aim of our junior section is to provide a fun environment for youngsters to enjoy their cricket and learn their trade. We welcome kids of all abilities; the majority that join us have had no experience before. Despite being first and foremost a friendly environment, our junior section is famous across the county for producing some of the best talent the region has to offer. We have produced many (too many to count) Cheshire junior representatives over the years and some have gone on to play for Cheshire at senior level. At the moment our most famous export is Daniel Leech, the Cheshire opening batsman. Just going on current members alone with have 3 players who have represented the North of England at junior level. The biggest success for the junior section came back in 1989 when the under 15’s won the national championship, the only team from Cheshire to achieve this feat. The magnitude of this achievement can be seen from previous winners being big towns such as Walsall and Bournemouth. James Cowell - who has one of the stars of the day – still opens the bowling for the 1st XI now. With 9 of our current 1st XI squad coming through the junior ranks we have shown our willingness to invest in the junior set-up.
Over the last couple of seasons the club has looked to rejuvenate it’s junior section and is once again ready to shine. The two leading coaches are former Cheshire junior coach Pete Johnson and the latest addition being former Yorkshire player and coach Stan Garbett. The addition of Stan is a real Coup for the club and makes us the envy of teams across the county.
With a range of high quality qualified coaches and the sort after Clubmark accreditation Winnington Park is the ideal place for juniors to learn their trade.
