Round 14 sees ‘A Cunning Plan…’ move another point clear of ‘Too Good For Me’ thanks to another vital bonus point against ‘Knowsey’s Knights’.  ‘Taffy’s 2s’ and ‘The £5 is in the Post’ both gained a point on Greg McKeown’s side to boost their chances of finishing in the prize money places.  The Fruitcakes move off the bottom of the table for the first time all season after they record their second win of the year in a shock victory against form team ‘Huxley CC’.

Round 13

Naturally a low scoring week due to the impact of rain on the 1st and 2nd XI games.  Teams with a heavy 3rdXI backing did well with skippers selection top scoring with 339 due to Jason Hayes having himself as captain.  Despite this he still dropped a point on the leader as A Cunning Plan… picked up a valuable bonus point for the big margin win against B.Chaloner.  This dented the progress of McKeown’s side who despite winning now fall 3 points behind the leaders.

After their heavy defeat against Geoff Wales’ men in round 7 Huxley CC have recorded 6 straight wins, this week Stuart Hayes’ side were the victims of a solid team.  Wavells Warriors scored an important win in terms of pride by defeating strugglers and rivals Knowsey’s 4ths to record 3 vital points which moves them up a place and are now 2 points further off the wooden spoon position after The Fruitcakes gained a consolation point after a narrow 13 point  defeat.

Week 12

There is a change at the top this week as Greg McKeown’s side lose their second game of the season at the hands of Steamy’s Blowers despite the Blowers manager and captain not playing due to rain.  It was a good week for Jonny Wales and James Woolley as their sides all won at the top of the table whilst Skippers Selection were defeated by B.Chaloner giving them a chance of still claimed one of the top two spots.  Earlier struggler Phil Amatiello is clawing his way up the table and top-scored this week thanks mainly to the 6 wickets from Tom Pilling, his large points score resulted in a 4 points which have been hard to come by this year for all sides.

At the other end of the table the Chairman fell further into trouble after losing to 2nd bottom side Knowsey’s 4ths who now have a 2 point cushion from bottom side The Fruitcakes who again failed to win.

Week 11

There were a few surprise results in a week that has yet again been affected by rain, with the first XI called off a lot of teams were left with holes in their side as some of their big performers didn’t play. At the top McKeown’s side have carved a one point advantage at the top of the table thanks to the bonus point in the convincing win against Casey’s men.  Pressure is growing near the top with 3rd and 6th place separated by only 1 point, but 3rd (Skippers Selection) still remains 5 points from the prize positions.

At the other end of the table The Fruitcakes finally recorded their first win with a close 23 points victory against fellow strugglers Wavells Warriors

Round 5

It was an eventful week in terms of movement in the table as there were some big wins and defeats for big teams. Last weeks leaders ‘Taffy’s 2s’ suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of NTB’s men.  Jonny Wales’ other side took the top spot but couldn’t capitalise fully losing by 8points to ‘The Not So Likely Lads’ but the bonus point was enough to take them top on points difference.  Previously undefeated sides ‘B.Chaloner’ and ‘The £5 is in the Post’ both suffered their first defeats of the season also and fall down the table as a result, due to good wins by the teams around them.  3 of the 5 teams that were without any points picked up their first wins of the season to put them back within touching distance of the rest.

The most successful teams were those that contained Greg McKeown after his impressive knock of 129* for the 2ndXI.  Greg McKeown’s side included himself as captain and as a result picked up the highest score of the week and 4 points which puts them just one point behind the leaders.

Skippers Selection retain their 100% record and got the highest winning margin of the week to record a very helpful 4 points which puts them within a win of the leaders.  The top 8 sides are now only separated by 4 points so the next few weeks could prove vital in shaping the course of the season.

B. Chaloner 148 v 350 Knowsey’s Know Alls (0pts, 3pts)

Warriors 282 v 239 Wavells Warriors (2pts, 0pts)

Round 4

The 2nds recorded a comfortable win however there was disappointment for the 1sts and 3rds who both suffered defeats.  Simon Newell was the highest points scorer thanks to a well crafted 93 in the 2nd team.  Other good performers were Cherrian, Shingler and 3rd XI skipper Jason Hayes.

After spending £4 on transfers in  the week Bryan Shingler was awarded with the highest team score of the week thanks mainly to the form of Newell, Shingler had the added bonus of having two games at the weekend and picked up a very handy 6 points as a result.

Jonny Wales’ two sides remain at the top of the table, closely followed by Geoff Wales’ unbeaten side.  A big game at the top of the table this week will see 1st take on 4th as Jonny Wales meets NTB in an important clash.  Ben Chaloner and Jason Hayes keep up their unbeaten records and sit at 6th and 8th respectively.

At The bottom end of the table the 5 teams without a point remain that way although the chairman picked up his first win of the season against fellow strugglers Knowsey’s Knockers.

Round 3

With the 2nd XI game being called off and the 3rd XI game only surviving 25 overs there are a lot of low scores and close games this week.  Neil Powell’s Know Alls picked up the highest score of the week with 476, the lowest score was just 22 by The Fruitcakes.

Last week there was a game with a difference of only 5 points between the sides, this week the game between chairman and fixture secretary had a difference of only 1 point! The transfer midweek by Geoff Wales replacing Spibey for Bunby proved to the factor that tipped the scales as Bunby took a catch in the abandoned match.

Taffy’s 2s have taken a lead at the top after a 364 point victory, A Cunning Plan… moves up to 2nd after 3 points against Stuart Hayes’ side.  NTB’s side are in 3rd place after only picking up 2 points for the win, Greg McKeown’s side falter for the first time losing to Ben Chaloner’s side by just 28 points, this result made way for Geoff Wales and Jeremy Casey to overtake Greg’s side.

Elsewhere Bryan Shingler, Paul Winder, and Knowsey’s Know Alls picked up their first wins of the season.

Round 2

A week which saw the 1stXI smash the County League record for runs scored in a game, it was always going to be a high scoring week.  It was a week which produced 3 centurions and 4 4-wicket hauls.  There were 2 sides to smash the 1000 barrier this week, both owned by Jonny Wales.  The third highest scoring team was ‘Knowsey’s Know Alls’ who were unlucky with the draw as they faced ‘A Cunning Plan…’ who had the second highest score of the week.

Stewart Kayne showed he has good initial impressions of players as he managed to defeat both the 1stXI captain and the club chairman in his first two games of the season this week.

There were two important games with clashes of great rivals, the first was between the Hayes brothers, Jason came out on top to make it two wins out of two leaving his opponent in the lower half of the league without a win in the first two games.

The second big game was between the two rightmoveabroad.com employees who battled out what will probably be the closest game of the season, there was only 5 points in it, the spoils went to….Vish Bhardwa’s ‘Curryhouse Kings of Calypso’!  The close results sees him take 2 points but Steamy is not far behind on 1 point thanks to the consolation bonus point, the transfers both sides made during the week ended up being the difference.

James Woolley is knocked off the top spot after defeat to Nick Talbot-Butler’s side, this leaves 4 teams sharing the lead (Jonny Wales x2, NTB, Greg McKeown) on 7 points.

At the other end of the table Phil Amatiello registered the leagues lowest ever score meaning he has had the lowest score on both weeks now…

Round 1 ....

Doc Sausage and the cheesey helmets 585 v 477 Chairman’s Band

Jeremy Casey picked up and early 3 points from the captain versus chairman battle.  Backing himself as captain and a tight bowling spell from Stuart Hayes proved to be the difference

 The Not So Likely Lads 595 v 344 Knowsey’s 4ths

A convincing victory for James Woolley thanks to big performances from Greg McKeown and Will Chambres in particular. The only team to gain 4  points this weekend is the ‘The Not So Likely Lads’ and therefore James Woolley has an early lead at the top.

 Magnolia Gents 535 v 547 Wavells Warriors

The tightest game of the day saw Dave Hine edge out Bryan Shingler’s side by just 12 points.  Dave Hine takes the two points, however ‘Magnolia Gents’ pick up their first point of the year thanks to a bonus point for the tight result.

The Fruitcakes 348 v 483 And Send XI

NTB stated an early claim for the title with a good win against Elaine Jones, a win of over 100 points means ‘And Send XI’ earn an extra bonus point, a total of 3 points for the weekend.

 Knowsey’s Knights 501 v 601 The £5 is in the post

A high scoring game between two of the competitions debutants, Geoff Wales’ side dispatching of the Knights in a 100 point victory.  This gives ‘The £5 is the post’ an impressive start with 3 points

 Leave them on and take that off… 532 v 649 Taffy’s 2s

Two time winner (!) Jonny Wales pulled off the highest score of the weekend in the highest scoring fixture to overcome a threatening Stuart Hayes side.  The win gives ‘Taffy’s 2s’ a 3 point start to the season.

 B. Chaloner 416 v 354 Knowseys Knockers

A close game finished with B.Chaloner collecting a 62 point victory in a low scoring game.  Knowsey’s Knockers fell to defeat despite the strong scoring of Greg McKeown due to Ben’s heavyweights: E Welch, B Shingler and T Norman

 Knowsey’s Know Alls 553 v 614 Skippers Selection

A strong performance from Neil Powell’s men was not enough to overcome the 3rd XI’s captain.  Two very strong teams who will both fancy the title this year, but its Jason Hayes who comes away with the 2 points.

Up The Albs 348 v 301 Huxley CC

The two lowest scoring teams of the opening round happened to meet, a very lucky break for Jason Hayes who despite a poor performance picks up a very useful 2 points against a poor scoring (due to availability) Phil Amatiello side.

 Steamys Blowers 526 v 644 A Cunning Plan . . .

A very good game of 2 high scoring teams ended with a win for Jonny Wales’ other side with another impressive points haul, a win of over 100 points (mainly thanks to the form of captain Kev Waterhouse) means 3 points for ‘A Cunning Plan…’.

Curryhouse Kings of Calypso 437 v 637 Too Good For Me

There was a big margin was in the final game between Vish Bhardwa and Greg McKeown.  Last years runner-up Greg McKeown was ruthless in picking up a 200 point win, he is surely after the title this year as holder Eoin Welch decided not to enter.  The victory gives him 3 points and ‘Too Good For Me’ sit just below the leaders as the best placed team on 3 points  thanks to points difference.
