For the 2015 season we will be introducing a new regular feature - the IDE Player of the Week Award. The award will be given to the standout player from the weekend's cricket, and it can be awarded to any player from our three senior teams.
The very first player to take the award is 1st XI seam bowler Iain Connor as he began 2015 with a 5-fer. The 1st XI were the only victors of our three teams this weekend as they beat Oakmere by 41 runs, and Connor's 5-38 from 13.4 overs played a huge part in the victory.
IC was playing 2nd XI cricket for over half the season in 2014, but his 25 wickets at a league-best average of 6.36 earned him a much-deserved 1st XI call-up, and he has relished the step up.
Constantly bowling quick, tight lines resulted in three of his five wickets being clean bowled at the weekend, including that of opener Alex Hodges whom he dismissed for 9.
Other honourable mentions from this week include 3rd XI skipper Paul Morris who hit 50 in his side's defeat to Oxton, as well as 2nd XI players Joe Paterson who took 4-20 away at Oakmere and Darren Falland who battled illness to make 42.
