Winnington Park Cricket Club
The Big Interview: Dave Hine
Back in January I caught up with this season’s 1st
XI captain Wavell Hine. Technical
problems have delayed this being published, but finally here it is…
What will you bring to the role as 1st XI
captain?
Hopefully a bit more
luck. Generally a team ethos for next season of more participation from fringe
players
The season will be tough
make no bones about, it if we finish 3rd from bottom it will be a
massive achievement. Realistically it
will be a dogfight every week, though if we finish higher I will be really
delighted.
I’m not making it
out to be difficult and then taking all the plaudits when we do well, credit
will be given were credit is due to whoever.
Some clubs wont be as
prepared as us through netting and practising but we will need to be at
our best each week to achieve our goals for the season.
Too much
non-availability throughout the club and no definite team plans or specific
roles for players
This year each player
must contribute: every little helps.
The batsmen need to
score consistently and the bowlers to take wickets… simple isn’t it?
First 6 to score 150
between them (3 to get 50 each week ),10 extras and 20 runs from the last 5
bats/bowlers.
Each bowler takes 2
wickets each game won
Overseas player is young
but an excellent prospect. Lets just break him in gradually and see what
happens, he can’t do any worse than his predecessor.
Do you see any players stepping up to the 1st XI
from the lower ranks in the club next season?
I would love to see 2nd
team players standing up and being counted and performing regularly but I will
blood them in cup games first to see if they can hack it, it will be next
season (2009) before I think we will see any new players coming through.
All players coming to
indoor nets will be looked at and we will have 3 warm up games prior to the
season for everybody to secure a starting place in the 1st xi
There might be a few new
players coming but this is under discussion (contract talks, etc), but we must
move fast in the January window.
I would love to bring in
several players but that would just undermine the players and show no
confidence in the players that I already have. I am quite happy working with
players that are committed to playing at Winnington, i just need to get
the best out of them.
Mini-Wavell is looking
forward to his first indoor net on the 20 january with the under 9's take note
some of you will be in for a surprise he’s better than his dad and wears a
bigger box
